On February 27th, Wangenheim Middle School held its 3rd annual Family Science Night and it was a huge success. Over 300 students, parents and community members attended. “Wangenheim’s Science department did an incredible job organizing events, contacting presenters and presenting sessions themselves,” cited Dan Grendziak, a science teacher at Wangenheim. Those that attended had many different and exciting activities to choose from.

Congratulations to the Wangenheim CyberPatriots! Our Cyber Patriot Club began just a few months ago in January 2015. The educational club was created to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. We work with the support of the Mira Mesa High School CyberPatriot Students. The club increases the awareness of cybersecurity by delivering a basic cybersecurity education supporting leadership, communication, and cooperation skills among its members. Each week the MMHS students mentor our middle school students. Our CyberPatriots placed 10th just a few spots behind their mentors from MMHS.

On Thursday, February 26, and Friday. February 27, the eighth grade Seminar students from Wangenheim Middle School donned their brightest and craziest outfits and headed over to Mira Mesa High School for a fun adventure, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Upon their arrival, they created a tunnel through which Kindergartners from Sandburg Elementary and Mason Elementary ran to begin a variety of activities such as face painting, reading, dancing, and singing. The eighth graders also put on a readers’ theatre version of The Lorax, delighting the audience. Read Across America has been an annual tradition in the Mira Mesa community for over fifteen years! It is almost entirely student run by the high school seniors, who do a wonderful job of organizing the event. “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, it’s not going to get better. It’s not” – The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
