Students examine jars containing various animal brains7th grade students at Wangenheim got a special treat to go along with the holiday season, BRAINS! Graduate students from the UC San Diego Neuroscience department came into classes to work with students during their Human Body unit of study. The grad students reviewed some of the brain parts Wangenheim students had learned about, then let students actually handle sheep brains to see first hand what the parts look like close up. Wangenheim students also got to see brains of different species including human, porpoise, opossum, penguin, and tuna. They compared the brain sizes and different regions to look for similarities and differences among different species. Students had a great experience examining this fascinating topic in depth.
