This conversation is among parents in the Poway Unified School District community and facilitated by our High School Principals and leaders in the faith community. The purpose of this conversation is to support parents resulting in safer and more successful students. As you engage in this conversation you can expect...

  • Partnership - The foundation of this conversation is built upon the belief that a community is stronger when community leaders in every sector partner together.
  • Support – We are here for no other reason than to support; recognizing that we are stronger together.
  • Honesty – This is a place where you can feel comfortable being honest about your needs without the fear of being judged.
  • Expertise – Each of our break-out sessions are led by subject matter experts who are giving of their time to help inform and equip parents to know how to handle the subject.

Dear San Diego Unified Families,

This is a reminder to you that Tuesday, September 2, is the first day of school for all students.

Our principals, teachers, and support staff have been working hard to prepare for the first day. We are focused on developing an academic, social and physical environment worthy of our students. Please help us start the school year right by making sure your child is at school Tuesday, on time and ready to learn. If you do not know when your child’s school starts, please visit http://transportation.sandi.net/belltimes.html

Thank you for your support and the privilege of serving your child. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend. We look forward to welcoming students and families back on September 2.

Working Together for Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood

The Board of Education and Superintendent Cindy Marten invite all stakeholders to a series of neighborhood meetings to Dream Big together for the future of our schools. We are committed to having clear, long-term priorities based on our Vision 2020. We believe that when our priorities are inspired and informed by our parents, students, and teachers, we will have important information for long-range planning with students at the center. These forums will yield a clear and collective sense of our District-wide long-term priorities.

Superintendent Cindy Marten and the Board of Education recently announced the gradual return of instructional days to our school calendars, beginning this year. Restoring instructional days assures that students receive maximum educational impact. One instructional day is being restored to the 2013-14 school year, bringing the total to 179 days.

• Traditional Schools: June 13, 2014, is now an instructional day and the last day of school for students.

• Year Round Schools: June 23, 2014, is now an instructional day and no longer a day off. The last day of school for students remains July 21, 2014.
